Can ice cream harm your health?
Everyone loves ice cream; in the midst of the summer heat, small children, adults and retirees alike buy it. In addition to being one of the most delicious and inexpensive delicacies, ice cream is also healthy: it contains a large amount of calcium, magnesium and other important elements, since it is made on the basis of milk and cream. However, many parents restrict their children, not allowing them to consume this sweet more than two to three times a week, believing that this can cause diseases of the throat and upper respiratory tract, such as sore throat. Even doctors give different answers to the question about the dangers of ice cream; there are too many points to consider.
Firstly, ice cream can vary greatly in composition: some are made with natural cream, others with milk powder; berry or fruit filler can actually be both a natural syrup and a flavoring agent with the addition of citric acid. Even simple cups are different! The most delicious, but at the same time high-calorie ice cream is considered - during its preparation the largest number of eggs is added, the fat content ranges from 12-13% (classic ice cream) to 15-20% (fat ice cream). Anyone who wants to lose weight or leads a healthy lifestyle will have to give up such ice cream. Less high-calorie classic creamy ice cream (8-10% fat) and fatty milk (up to 6%). For those who care about their own figure, classic dairy (it contains from 2.5 to 4% milk fat) or low-fat milk (0-2%) is best suited. The latter can be used even by those who are on the most severe diet.
Milk contains almost all vitamins and minerals necessary for humans: calcium, sodium, magnesium, phosphorus, sulfur, chlorine, iodine, zinc, vitamin A, B1, B2, B12, D, disaccharides, lactose. However, do not forget that the daily milk requirement for a person fluctuates around one liter (depending on the season), and if ice cream is included in the diet, you should eat less other dairy products.
Popsicles are the most popular among children and young people, but their composition is very different: popsicles, sorbet and ice cream with syrup, jam and fruit pieces. Popsicle in the narrow sense of the word does not apply to ice cream, like sorbet, which is made according to the same recipe as popsicles, only from carefully chopped ingredients with the addition of puree. But sorbet and creamy ice cream are made with the addition of high-grade milk or cream, and due to this it has a number of useful qualities, since in combination with acidic juices and jams, calcium and magnesium are much better absorbed by the human body, and their harmful acidic effect on the stomach is neutralized by milk or cream.
However, this is not the whole list of ingredients. In order for the ice cream to have a uniform structure, freeze well and gradually melt at room temperature, it contains a large number of additives: stabilizers E410, E412 and emulsifiers E471, E422, E476, it contains flavors and dyes, for example, E160a. Such a list cannot but alert the most unpretentious person in food, but most of these substances are also produced from plants and have a harmful effect on the body only with regular use. The problem lies in the fact that often a person does not know what kind of products he uses under the label with E. For example, the E160a dye contains a large amount of carotene, the accumulation of which can lead to cancer, it is contraindicated in pregnancy. E412 - guar gum, a substanceextremely popular for fighting obesity as it is not absorbed in the intestines, creating a feeling of fullness. At the same time, it can be the cause of intestinal blockage with insufficient fluid intake. In the United States in the 1980s, at least 10 people were hospitalized due to his overdose.
The main property of ice cream is its low temperature. Because of her, most parents do not allow their children to eat a lot or offer to wash down the treat with hot tea. Indeed, on a weakened body, especially exhausted by regular overheating, which disrupt the work of thermoregulation, ice cream can have a detrimental effect: colds, tonsillitis, exacerbation of tonsillitis and even otitis media can be the result of a large amount of ice cream eaten. However, it will not harm a healthy body, but will serve as a good stimulator of immunity and hardening.
So, should you be wary of ice cream? The best solution is to use it not every day, so that additives that are unsafe for the body have time to be excreted and do not accumulate. Three to four times a week will be enough to temper the body and get valuable vitamins and minerals. If, in the midst of the summer heat, you use it every day for a week, it will also not do much harm, if you then give the body a little rest.
