The grape snail is a fairly large gastropod mollusk. It leads a terrestrial life, at the end of autumn, at the first signs of a cold snap, it burrows into the ground and falls into a deep sleep, and in the spring it creeps out to the surface. The lifespan of grape snails can range from 7 to 20 years if they do not get caught by a predator for lunch. They are found not only in vineyards, but also in shrubs and forests, along the banks of reservoirs. Distributed almost throughout Europe, except for the northern lands.
People used grape snails for food for a long time, not considering them something special. Quite the opposite, snails were considered the food of the common people rather than the delicacy they are considered today. The simplicity and speed of preparation of grape snails have earned them the fame of an affordable and very nutritious dish.
