Chekhon belongs to the Karpov family. Significantly different in appearance from other fish of this family. It is a valuable commercial fish. It is caught in large quantities, and therefore it is listed in the Red Book. It lives in the Caspian, Azov, Black, Baltic seas, as well as in deep and clean lakes and rivers (calorizator). This fish has many local names: shabel, scales, oseledets, on the Don it is called a mower, in Belarus - a saber, goat, sabrefish, sidewall. Many of these names are associated with her saber-like appearance.
