In the United States, shepherdia berries are called Nebraska currants, buffalo berries, bison or rabbit berries. Shepherdia silvery got its official name thanks to the director of the Botanical Gardens of the English city of Liverpool. The discoverer of the plant was the botanist Thomas Natol, who discovered the shepherd in 1818. The scientist named the new species after his friend and director of the Botanical Garden, John Shepherdy.
Due to its resistance to low temperatures in our country, Shepherdia silvery has found application as an ornamental shrub.
